Environmental Chemistry & Aquatic Toxicology (ECAT)
Two
cooperative
working groups comprise our research team that follows a pollutant from
source
to receptor. The environmental chemistry
group examines fundamental behavior of pollutants in the environment to
better
understand contaminant fate & transport phenomenon, while the
aquatic
toxicology group investigates potential exposure pathways to biota. The team considers a variety of pollutants,
with a primary focus on emerging contaminants.
Topics of interest to the team include pollutant exchange at the
land-water and groundwater-surface water interfaces, contaminated
sediments and
development of treatment technologies.
Common research interests are persued
by this group of Engineering faculty, including Haluk Beyenal (Chemical
Engineering), Nehal I.
Abu-Lail (Chemical Engineering
& BioEngineering), Jeremy A.
Rentz (Civil & Environmental
Engineering), and myself. Collaborative research projects
incorporate microbial biofilms, emerging contaminants , and
environmental microbiology.
